أثار الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب موجة غضب واسعة وتنديداً حقوقياً وسياسياً، عقب نشره مقطعاً مصوراً يستهدف فيه طفلات صغيرات ارتدين الحجاب خلال حفل تخرجهن من مرحلة رياض الأطفال في مدينة سانت بول بولاية مينيسوتا.

بدأت الواقعة حينما أعاد ترامب نشر مقطع فيديو عبر حسابه الرسمي على منصة تروث سوشيال، يظهر الفتيات وهن يحتفلن بملابس التخرج مع حجاب أبيض، وأرفقه بتعليق يحمل نبرة تحريضية ضد المهاجرين، متجاهلاً التعديل الأول للدستور الأمريكي الذي يكفل حرية الممارسة الدينية.

وتوالت ردود الفعل المستنكرة من قبل شخصيات إعلامية، حيث وصف سام شتاين، مدير التحرير في موقع ذا بولوارك، المشهد بأنه مزعج للغاية، بينما اتهم الصحفي آرون روبار الرئيس ترامب باستغلال منصته للهجوم على الأطفال لدوافع دينية.
